I recently acquired a new permission piece and was looking for help figuring the place out and spots to key in on since i don't want too heavily scout it this late in the year, Its got some pretty significant wooded ridges and is old pasture fields and woods surrounded by some hayfields, no ag fields in the area to speak of. I hunted it the other night and sat in the stand near the center, didn't see a thing, its not a heavily pressured property since i'm one of only 2-3 guys who hunt it and the others are rarely out there. the yellow lines are my access walking in on  the several 4 wheeler trails that run through the property, i was told that there are a handful of decent buck rubs running along side the trail on the left. Wind is predominantly a W with some NW-SW days.

Thoughts?

Just really too hard to tell from just a basic map. The first year I hunted our property didn't really have time to scout it out. Threw up a stand for my buddy and a ground spot for another guy like 2 days before gun season.  I had already tagged a deer with bow in another spot so I wanted to set them up.  My buddy in the stand shot at a huge buck and missed it (funny story for another time) and I shot a buck a 1/2 hr later.  We got lucky.

My best advice would be to still hunt it mostly this year.  Do a lot of stopping at spots for 20-30 minutes at a time. Learn the area and then make stand decisions next year.  Good luck . New dirt is always fun.

Hunt the squeeze on the oxbow to the west the pinch on the wood to the north and if that dark line in the middle is a ravine with hemlock look for crossing or head and bottom of hollow. Sweet spot easy picking on those sets

Hang and hunt. Sectional steps. Get up 10 ft watch and move on those spots. Move in on those pinches and ridge benches. Get lucky or learn for next year. Now. Move in

Thanks for the input guys. @SwedeThats exactly what ive been trying to do this year, Hang and hunt sets staying mobile with my set of Hawk sticks and DIY "saddle" made from a rock climbing harness.
