The girls are getting old enough that we are looking forward to some tent camping this summer. However, my old 4 man tent isn’t going to cut it. My wife wants to look at getting a 2 room tent, that way we can put the girls to bed and not have to stumble over them when we turn in. I mentioned maybe just having 2 tents, but she’d like to look at the 2 room/divided option first. Does anyone have a recommendation?

We have a Coleman 8-man tent and it's roomy enough for 4 adults and two dogs on a rainy day. Should do you fine, but make sure you seal the seams including the rain fly.

First off, make sure you seal the seams......... :)

A longtime member here, 2012taco (I can't remember his complete handle) has a two room tent IIRC.  He has done lots of camping in his years with his family, hopefully he can swing by this thread.

We have a 10 person tent that had a divider (just a nylon cloth that clipped between the two halves. We never bothered with it when the 5 of us slept in there. Was nice for some privacy to change into bathing suits, etc.

oh yeah..seal the seems-wish someone told me to do that!!!

The last tent we used as a family of 4 if I can remember correctly was for 8-10 people. It basically had 3 areas in it. We used the center section for clothes then the 2 areas on the end for sleeping. One side for the kids one side for us. They where only divided by material that hung from the ceiling and walls.

Heck if  you ever make it to the WNY area I’d give it to you even if it was just for you to try it out to help figure out what you wanted. We have since moved from tent camping to a camping trailer. Haven’t slept in a tent in probably 5 years now.

No recommendation on a tent itself but whatever you get, make sure to seal the seams. Makes a world of difference

How would one seal the seams. Asking for a friend!

Good idea....if  in SENY you can borrow my 10 person tent. PM if that would help.

They have spray on sealer, or liquid sealer with a round applicator built into the inside of the lid.  Set tent up and start sealing..

We did the tent camping when my girls were young . One rainy weekend led to us getting a travel trailer , haven't looked back since .

Enjoy the camping nothing like kids and the outdoors .

Moreau lake allows tent camps as well as  great fishing

you'll love it

Eventually we'll be getting a trailer, I'm sure. When my Subaru finally goes, I'll pick up something that is a little more conducive to hauling.

We were going to start close, just in case things go rougher than expected. Moreau is only about 30 minutes for us, so that's a great suggestion. At that distance we would take both vehicles, as I'm sure my wife is going to pack for an army on the first trip out :)
