NYRturkeycall
Wow. He's lucky he was able to not only escape but keep his wits about him with nothing but that stick to defend himself and some type of escape route and holdout planned out. Good for him for staying as, he could. This is why it minimum. I always carry my 110 with me when I'm in the woods. Palma non sine pulvere
2BuckBizCT
When I was hunting lions in Arizona, each night before dark we would have to drive around the farms to check on cows etc. One night we came across a cow all bloody and it's ear hanging off. We drove a little further and there was a pack of wild dogs (not coyotes) attacking another cow- we couldn't get any shots off before they fled into the mountains. They are a real issue in southern Arizona. I was told they are way more aggressive than coyotes.

The owner needs to be held responsible and accountable. IMO, if your dog attacks a person then you should be legally handled as if you assaulted the person. In this case, 3 (one for each dog) criminal assault charges the owner should be facing. PraiseDiana, mowin and Dr Juice

Yea it was pretty bad (at least in 2012). Farmers were paying guides $500/lion killed too. mowin
blackbeltbill
It is common unfortunately to Run Dogs on State Land instead of walking them In. Since I hike in both New York and New Jersey I have seen this plenty of times. Not fun to have a Strange Dog sprint at you with the owner 100 yards away. This guy got Lucky he got out of there. There was an incident on LI several years ago where an unleashed dog stepped on a racoon trap. There was a DEC investigation and the trapper did nothing illegal. Of course the media and the politicians blamed the trapper and not the dog owner for an unleashed dog which was the violation. Dr Juice
