Wolves in NY

The difference in size of Wolves to coyotes is insane. Even a giant 50lb yote looks like a baby compared to an adult wolf. I tried 2 wolf hunts in Alberta and Ontario and never saw one. They amaze me which led me to want to hunt them. My Dad got hooked because of me and went on 2 more additional hunts and finally got 2 in British Columbia. They are huge. @crappyice and @The_Real_TCIII saw them

Now's the time to get a wolf in NY before they outlaw it lol. I'm sure we have more than one roaming around the state. Wolf packs aren't that far from NY and there's a lot of vast wilderness for them to sneak through with out being noticed

NY held a mountain lion around for some time near Lake George that was later struck and killed by a driver in CT.  That wasn't that many years ago and the cat was traced back to the Dakotas from its DNA.  So easy enough with wolves.

It's already illegal.  Wolves are listed in NY as endangered which gives them protection.  In this case and in most, hunters will likely assume they are seeing a large coyote and later learn it was a wolf.  But their size differences are significant if you've ever seen both species.

I'm just joking, but technically the official word is there aren't resident wolves in NY. So its easy for someone to say they thought it was a big coyote (a little related to the CT thread now). Generally those transient wolves are younger males that would usually be smaller than the 80+ pounders you would see in a pack. I admit I have never seen a wolf other than in a zoo, but it was surely much bigger than any coyote I've ever seen.

I believe the Eastern wolf is smaller than the northern and western counterparts so could be harder to tell the difference from a large yote.

I think the dna was traced to the great lakes region. So Minnesota or UP Michigan area i guess

There is a Wolf Conservation Center in Westchester county:

As a member of a deer management program in Westchester  I was contacted by them to volunteer to pick up road kill and deliver it to their facility. I can't commit to that now but certainly will look them up in the future when I have more free time

I called a wolf in while turkey hunting one spring. Me and my cousin saw it clearly and looked at each other when it took off. An amazing size animal and we had over 80 years of hunting experience between the two of us at the time. We’ve seen plenty of coyotes over the years and that was NO coyote.
