Ticks are becoming active.

They never went really dormant around here. I've had them on my packs while small game hunting and even hiking when I stop to make lunch or coffee. Way above normal temps this Winter. I was almost waiting to find bot flies in some of the squirrels I took.

i feel like every year people say ticks are worse than last. unlike many other states here in NY we're hamstrung with any efforts to do prescribed burns which creates tick utopias and less biodiversity for habitat.
people say ticks are bad in Albany Pine Bush Preserve but whenever I've gotten ticks from hunting there it was when i was in an area untouched and especially untouched with burning happening in adjacent sections.

i typically wear warm or cold weather compression base layers. never use permethrin because I never plan ahead to prep my clothes. i should start using it though.

I REALLY wish we could do burns … legally.
