phade
I try not to overthink this. While some believe it to be a big deal, I just don’t. I say both, mostly depending on the crowd, and I really don’t think much beyond it. Pygmy, grampy, Wolc123 and 7 others 4

But depending on the crowd, I do on occasion say "take" or "harvest". Working in a large public school district for many years, has taught me to "soften" things just a little bit. But only just a little. I'm not very PC outside of work though. phade and Belo

Using the term harvest isn't catering to a demo, it's the same language all states use in their regulatory reporting. If I have to be careful with what pics I post and how I talk about hunting to keep my right to hunt, I'm ok with that. At the end of the day the animal is dead in my freezer. Does some content filtering on social media go too far? Absolutely. But to ignore that we aren't still at war with anti's is silly and a little decorum on what you say and how you post stuff doesn't hurt. I've seen a lot of bad pics out there that are perfectly legal but paint us in a bad light. Stubborn1vt
I generally say kill. I never say harvest, but sometimes say I got/shot/took a deer or turkey, especially with customers. Pygmy

SilentStalker
I say kill or shot, but I also am not going out of my way to talk about hunting with the non-hunting friends I have. Either way, I wouldn't change what I say, I own that I killed an animal and try to be as respectful as possible to the situation. I dont think there is a need to suger coat it becasue it's pretty black and white. That being said, I understand there are certain situations where being tactful would be necessary, i just try to avoid them haha.
Otto
My friend used to ask me "did you harvest your buck yet?" every couple of weeks during the season. It did sound a little odd to me, but I understood what he was saying. I usually say "took" or "killed" when it comes to deer, and "caught" or "kept" when it comes to fish. crappyice
dbHunterNY
being involved in NDA (QDMA) and other orgs in the public eye i'm obligated to use harvest a lot. i use "kill" and other terms otherwise though. everyone needs to be comfortable with the idea living things die to sustain us. fact of life. Splitear
"Executed", unless it's on my hit list and then I say "assassinated" My personal favorite and most used is "missed". I usually say "got" or "took". Not sure why, I've said that for as long as I can remember, small and large game. Bucksnbows
I do a fair amount of public speaking, and I like to get that shock value when I can to get people's attention. If I'm talking about the over abundance of deer in relationship to the health of the riparian corridor, then I prefer to remind my audience that we need to kill more deer. Harvest always sounded to me like picking apples or pears. Or cutting corn or soybeans, but not shooting and killing game animals. Buckmaster7600
I’ve never put a second of thought into it until I listened to them talk about it today. I’ve never used the term harvest if, I’m hunting Its to kill. I harvest fruits and vegetables. That being said I don’t mingle with people that aren’t like me very often and if I do I couldn’t give a shit if they don’t like that I kill critters. DirtTime
I don't think much about it to be honest. Harvest, fill a tag, kill- whatever my brain decides to put forth at that moment in time. I did upset someone recently when they asked if I caught any coyotes and I said: "I wasn't out there with a fishing pole, I was out there with a rifle to kill them not dangle a jig on their fn nose!". I'm not sure they were too happy with that reply from the expression on their face.
