Any fertilize their periennal clovers?

Recommended Posts

Thinking next year I am going to try this .  Since frost seeding has taken so well, would like to keep the clover going for a few years and healthy. Prob fertilize it in the spring next year since I shouldnt have to frost seed much at all anymore after this season for a bit.

I’m sure that you are already aware of this but remember that clover is a nitrogen fixing plant.   It does benefit from fertilizer but it does not need fertilizer that is nitrogen heavy.

Yup was actually going to use a zero nitrogen mix. Like a 0-20-20.

I had to dump a ton of nitrogen before i planted last year according to soil samples, thankfully no lime. Also a little potassium. I didn't do any soil sampling for the clover plot this year but was thinking of just throwing down some 10-10-10 if prices aren't bad.

I plan to put some zero nitrogen fertilizer on my clover plot again this year. The first year it was in, it looked great. The second year, the plot wasn't looking so good and seemed like it was ~50% grass. I over-seeded again late last summer and plan to hit it with some fertilizer after snow melt. Not sure if I'll do a soil test or just put a bag or two of 0-20-20 on it. It's just a small ~1/4 acre plot in my back yard anyways, mainly for watching critters, so I'm not overly concerned.
