South Africa trip

As a few guys will remember that were there, back in March 2020 I won the bid on a hunting trip to South Africa at a qdma banquet.  After being delayed a couple times due to the pandemic and some other stuff a friend and I made the trip recently. It was fantastic. We saw some awsome stuff and bagged a bunch of animals. We had 2 amazing PH's that took excellent care of us at Africa Maximum Safaris. 20230311_114151_1.jpg.c749b3666cd7e00bb49f9cba3b61b87d.jpg20230311_094720_1.jpg.2b0c0493ecadff939ab2ceed585fec89.jpg20230310_094030_1.jpg.191b1bfa90334109c7da431504951df5.jpg20230309_114130_1.jpg.172b62acd481ba4ec1cf7864b6ffd846.jpg20230309_105349_1.jpg.2ef3aa4a3a43c783f0da08aa45a96f3b.jpg20230307_151626_1.jpg.e982d1e48e6ea8b11b5f76869f63b67b.jpg20230307_142345_1.jpg.2422df17ecb3061fd0dd504cc127e85c.jpg20230307_110152_1.jpg.5ade67f5534703dbb04249142aa38b67.jpg20230307_093909_1.jpg.4e15167d1daff3c94bbe23e5861093de.jpg20230306_161557_1.jpg.6ee4d9057f727294749ed9f5af3965e5.jpg

The weather was warm as it is the end of their summer over there but there isn't much humidity.  The staff of skinners, cooks and cleaners took great care of us and there were a few other people there hunting that made for some good company.  We had a ball playing pool at night with our PH's and some other PH's as well and a couple of other employees.

It was pretty interesting to see how things are a world away from what we were used to. When you see the shacks some of these people live in it makes you wonder what some of the people in our country really have to bitch and complain about. There were some huge platinum mines we drove by that I would have never imagined seeing.

Awesome Trip !  Was the Lion looking for a free ride or looking at you as his next free meal ? :)

What are you allowed to bring back ?  I know the airlines came up with a bunch of  BS new rules after the woke mongers jumped all over them after the collared Lion got shot . They demanded airlines refuse to transport trophies from Africa .

I had one stalk on zebra where I could have shot one with a bow but they snuck in on us and an impala spooked them. That was pretty cool. Also had another stalk on zebras that ended up being no good for zebra because there weren't any good stallions in the group but as we headed back to the truck we came across the spring buck I got. That was a fun hunt. We also made a pretty long stalk across some open grasslands to get the black wildebeest I got that was fun. When we got to where we thought we would be close enough there ended up being another group of them that had moved in so we were glassing 2 different groups looking for a good one while hoping neither group would spot us and take off. Once they took off it was hard to get back onto them, they like to run!

At one point I had to target shoot my rifle again to get rezeroed. I must have bumped my scope or something because we target shot before we started hunting and I was good. But after making a couple bad shots ( I still got the animals) I knew something was wrong. When target shooting we saw I was shooting about 12" to the left at 100 yards.  I got that squared away and shot fine after that.

The taxidermy work will all be done over there and shipped here once completed. Upon arrival back to Atlanta they were asking all the hunters if they had brought any biltong (African jerky) back home with them so they could confiscate it. Also they took my shoes from me and disinfected them somehow.

Did you eat any of the zebra ?  My nephew has been on SA hunts the last two years, and killed a zebra on each.  He said they taste pretty good.  I’ve always wanted to try horse, but that’s still illegal here in the US.  I bet that zebra tastes similar.

That’s great!!!  Everyone at the table was kinda shocked when you hopped into the auction and won it.  Glad it finally happened!

I was shocked but it worked out awesome.  CONGRATS EJ - hunt of a lifetime for all of us but Dinsdale.  Lol
