Just drove back from New Jersey. Their Statewide- over the counter day is today.

I was able to buy Turkey Permits for all weeks- A,B,C,D,+E. So,I have 5 Turkey Permits or the " Alabama  Experience ". Actually, I think Alabama reduced their max limit from 5 .

So,I start out on April 24 in New Jersey. And their final day is May 26th.

Cost was $105 Bucks. Happily  Paid.

I wish I was closer to Jersey, can you only shoot 1 bird in that week? A long drive for 1 turkey.

There are 22 Zones and you have to hunt that particular  Zone and matched to week A to E that you put in for and bought that tag.

Say someone kills a Tom in Zone and area 9A and there are additional  Turkey Permits left over as each Zone has a different  number of Permits for each week- so this successful  hunter finds out he is able to buy another 9A Turkey permit either online or at a License Agent for $21 Bucks and he can use that 2and Permit in that same week to kill another Gobbler. And this could happen a 3rd time as well.

Conceivably a Good Turkey Hunter who has good access to both Private and Public can Kill alot of Gobblers.

Just out of curiosity, I think you're pretty close to VT? I almost picked up tags for there until I saw it was going to cost me $140 to hunt one morning.

I hunt Vermont every year. There’s a good amount of public within 1-1.5hr drive. It’s fun hunting and not a ton of hunters on weekdays. Much like the adk’s there’s a lot of woods that have zero turkeys but when you find one they’re usually very willing to die!

If I was going to be over there for 3-4 days I'd probably spend the money and give it a go. I'll only have one morning of a few hours to possibly hunt and I just don't want to spend that sort of money for a couple of hours. One of these years I will get over there to hunt. Actually looked at a few houses in VT recently.

It’s nice to have the option if you tag out in New York. I don’t work the entire month of may and my goal is always to kill my 2 gobblers in New York and once that’s done I’ll hit Vermont, Mass and Maine if time allows. Last year I was able to tag gobblers in Vermont and Maine after my NY tags were filled on may 3rd.

Right.  I am finding more Turkey Sign in North New Jersey this year and people are seeing more. I will hunt 6 days in New Jersey on 2 Turkey Permits before New York opens.

Then,I will Bounce  around between New York and New Jersey. The Remaining 4/NJ Turkey Permits run until May 26th.I hope to Bag 2 in NY and 1 in New Jersey.

Cynthia is Hell Bent on calling in her own Gobbler this year- so,I will be a 1/2 mile off to start off.

I used to hunt in Pennsylvania  for for 20 straight years but my 2004 SUV is now 20 years old .

My Flock of 11 is starting to Break up- 3/31/23.

Only had 7 Show up this morning.  3 Big Jakes and Hens.

Other 4 Hens including  probably  the Brood Hen are off looking for Nesting areas. The 11 may still get together  - but the Dye is set for the soon complete breakup.

Got a Bonus this morning  while walking next to the Alfa Jake who was in full Strut.

A Loud " Spit and Drum".

Getting nervous.  Only 22 days till youth season, and I haven't seen a bird on the farm yet.  Usually by mid March the flocks have broken up and they are back on the farm.  Thinking that 24" snow storm has them a little behind schedule.

I’m another 2 weeks I’ll start listening in the am and evenings. They’re never here until mid April, this time of year when I don’t see them I still worry but I don’t know why.
