GencountyZeek
The Zeeks are possibly looking to make a big move out west. After spending time in Idaho last year it has kinda stuck with me. Ma Zeek has never really loved NY, its just were family is. I lost my 3 remaining grandparents in 2022, both my parents are retired and travel constantly, her mom is retired and would potentially be staying with us in the winters and coming back to NY in the summers. My brother and his family moved to Florida in 2022. We would be leaving behind her brothers family and our friends. My buddy that I hunted with last year would potentially be moving out there with his wife, would be nice to have friends close by. Obviously not a easy choice but something we have been talking alot about theses last few months. Our 13 yr old son has told us numerous times he has no intentions of staying in NY after high school graduation, he wants to be a DEC officer elsewhere. Our 11 yr old daughters hang up is leaving behind 1 really good friend. We are most likely going to fly out to Idaho this summer and check out some areas north of Boise, possibly Idaho city to Cascade area. Winters are not as bad as NY in these areas which is a big selling point. Plenty of job opportunities for the both of us, and a plethora of game animals to keep us busy. Taxes are lower, housing currently is high but dropping slightly. Something about being in those mountains, the scenery, the freedoms, less taxes...to be continued. ZAG
GTH outta here as soon as you can. Same boat for us. Why am I giving NY tens of thousands a YEAR to live here. It’s a cesspool of lousy democratic woke idiots who have turned this place into an overpriced crime ridden dump for a long time. Yeah were fed up 😁 Many states offer the same or more in hunting, fishing….. and its way more affordable and better weather. Many places are prospering like crazy with opportunities. NY is un-investable plain and simple. Hope this helps 😁 GencountyZeek, mowin, Bionic and 2 others 1
Splitear
Good luck. As someone who made the decision (with my wife) to move away, I can say I haven’t regretted it. Home is always just a short trip away, whether by car or by plane. If you decide to go, I wish you guys the best of luck. Moho81
Give it a go. You can always move back. We have far too many close friends and family here to move. I think the only way we would move is if our kids grow up and start their own family’s in another state. We might move to stay close to them but that’s a long time from now. No need to rush that idea. GencountyZeek
phade
If I could get my wife to even consider it, I’d have the house sold and job switch made faster than she could blink. You have the hardest part likely solved - a unified family decision, it seems. Good luck! GencountyZeek
Skillet
If I didn't work for the state, we'd be gone already. Have too much time invested now. When I retire, that's another story. My daughter graduates in two years, once she’s out of school it’s going to make that last 10 years a lot harder to stand! Is the pension worth it is a question I ask myself every day now! Dogman
As bad as it seems to live here in NY "these" days I myself am not ready to give up on NY ! I love this state ! Not happy with the way she's been going as of late . Hoping things turn around. Good wish's to those who leave. I'm sure the other places will have their issues. LET EM GROW
Run my friend! It is hard to let your children down, especially when it comes to friends, Things happen at school that can make it hard to make friends or what not, so we never really know why they get attached to one person so much sometimes. Hate letting them down or making them do things they don't want to. But We are considering something of the sort too, not sure where. Wife needs warm weather for her joints and RA, I can go anywhere, there just needs to be water for our boat, Big game for the freezer coyotes and Turkeys lol. We also need a state that offers help and services for my special needs son, This is really the only thing keeping us here in NY. They do offer a bit to help with kids/adults with needs. Where many states do not. Most my family have gone through the pearly gates, besides mom who retired and moved to Florida 2 years ago, and my brother whom I own my camp with and he also wants to move soon as well... NY is absolutely beautiful, but for obvious reasons its absolutely not so beautiful. Id love to go to Idaho or Montana, always been a dream of mine.. Wife wants South.. Gonna be tough to figure this one out.. But get out man, Where life moves slower and time is enjoyed more peacefully... This is why I moved to the southerner of NY, and now ready to go even further away from people.. GencountyZeek and mowin
