mowin
Went to Homer D to get a gal of paint for the master bedroom. Imagine out surprise when we see a .95¢ NYS "Paint care fee". So I'm wondering how are they going to care for my paint? God lord does this state suck.

Splitear
There is a paint disposal program in NYS paid with that. The only reason I know is because we recently cleaned out an old cabinet at work with probably 50 gallons of old paint in it. County Waste wouldn’t touch it, but we were able to take it to a NYS disposal drop off site in Wilton.

Looks like there are drop off points in Chatham and Valatie. https://www.paintcare.org/states/new-york/#/new-program-in-2021 mowin
mowin
I'll have to check if I need to pay to dispose. I live in Chatham, so hopefully. If I can, it's definitely better than the tire disposal fee, which I pay when I purchase a tire, and pay again when replacing. Splitear

Lawdwaz
Kitty litter dries paint as I’m sure you know. No need to run to a collection site. Nomad and GreeneHunter

When I moved to CT I found out any paint store in the state has to accept 5 gallons per day. It came in handy to drop off a bunch of old stuff. I did 5 gallons per day until I got rid of everything i didn't need. mowin

FWIW any paint store has a packet(for a gallon) or container of chemical that will harden oil or latex paints/stains for disposal. Nomad
Nomad
Two methods Im fond of for disposing of such things , are the 1. The black contractor bag method and 2. The neighbors garbage tote ( darn cameras on everyone’s house limits this now ) Being retired I no longer have the option of using the totes at work , plus they put cameras around the outside of the firehouse too, such an untrusting world . DDT
Similar to the NYS tire tax of $2.50. Started out as a way to pay for some piles of tires that needed to be disposed of, that were left behind by someone in NY. Then it became permanent after the clean up was finished. State denied it was a new tax. But, when I go to file for payment you go to the "other taxes" column to pay it. My dad always said the thruway was supposed to be free after the original bonds were paid for by the tolls too. You would think that it would at least be smooth for the tolls they charge. Agree, this state has problems. mowin
