Foraging 2023

Recommended Posts

I watched a show called "Wildfed" where the guy was eating milkweed flowers just before they bloomed out completely.  Put them in egg wash and garlic and seared in cast iron. Might have to give those a try just for the hell of it.

I would love to pick wild mushrooms but the fear of getting the wrong one always reigns me in.

Wild leeks are "ramping" up!

How about mushrooms- we have been super dry in SENY with the exception of a dump of rain Saturday...but then followed by cooler temps.
i feel like 1 good rain followed by a warm week wilL make things pop.

Hoping for for chicken of the woods and morels this year - last year I had little success.

The first i usualy get are oysters. But dry amd warm wasnt making them pop.. my shitake logs may be  popping  soon .or  i will  force them for  turkey season ..  love mushrooms with meat  on the grill..  missed my chance at chicken of woods  last year got called to work when they were nearly ready and got back they were full og  bugs..now  ill pick under size as  i want them  .  Miataki was good and i have a few lbs frozen  still so i should be good till late summer when it should  pop up again.
