Bucksnbows Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 And today I saw my first flock of juncos. I’ve hunted two days for woodcock in Otsego County and have only flown a few birds. Seems too warm to move birds south, but I’m starting to see juncos and they always seem to show when the doodles do. nywaw, Rusty and Bonefreak 2 1 "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
blackbeltbill Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 I have not seen any Woodcock yet this year. I was out in Sterling Forest State Park this morning. Bucksnbows 1 Take The Multiple Use Area Challenge.
Dogman Posted November 12, 2022 Posted November 12, 2022 My dog has been on the injured list so we have not been out the past 10 days. Nothing serious and are looking to get out for the last couple days of the woodcock season. Only a few days until firearms deer season so we take off chasing grouse until the muzzleloader season anyway. Any woodcock activity for others out there ?
ATbuckhunter Posted November 12, 2022 Posted November 12, 2022 Woodcock are acting funny this year. Ran into a ton of them when I was grouse hunting in Maine the first week of October, but none here. From what I'm seeing, the woodock are making huge jumps. Flying past NY in most cases. Looks like a bad year for woodcock this year Bucksnbows 1

I’ve only seen resident birds, no flights which is crazy considering how late in the year it is. I stopped looking at the snowline up north once I realized our season will pass before we even get that. I think I found 1 woodcock this whole season here in NY. Hopefully next year will be better
