No thanks.

I used to bowfish when I was a kid, then I got tired of killing stuff for no reason.

Well there is a reason to bowfish beyond just wanting to kill stuff, especially when considering invasive species of carp.  It also helps to create healthier bodies of water.  Also, while not my preferred table fare, I'd imagine some people do eat carp.  Others find other uses for them, such as fertilizer (even though it's often joked about, it is effective) or donating to animal shelters, etc.  Lots of win/win opportunities that help the environment.

I'm willing to bet that 99.9% of bowfishermen do nothing but kill and waste their catch.

It's possible they discard them, but it's still a beneficial thing to do with invasive species and overpopulated bodies of water whereas that overpopulation is adversely affecting it and other habitat/species.  But I get it, no one wants to feel like they are wasting anything, so it is a matter of perspective.

I've never done it. I wanted to get a bow set-up for it, but never did before moving. I knew a lot of guys who would go out in the backwater in the spring to shoot carp. When the water came up, the fish would move into the farm fields to get at the seeds floating out of the ground. Always looked like a hoot.

I went with some buddies on the Big Wabash while they tried to shoot asian carp in the air. I drove the boat while they missed every fish they shot at.
