With the recent explosion of Green recently, I decided  to go " Retro" this coming Monday as,I head into the New Jersey Turkey Woods.

I bought a Green Wrangler Work Shirt at Tractor Supply recently, Green Cargo Pants, a Green Hat, and my J.C. Higgins/ model 583- 16 Gauge ,I painted Green as well.

There is actually 4 different  Shades of Green there. Black Strap to carry out a Big ol Bird if,I get Lucky. Copperfit Neck Gaiter which will be my Facemask there. And fold up Orange Hat for Safety walking out.

That 16 Gauge has a Fiber Optic sight,I just Gorilla  Glued on. No carriage.  I will have 1 Shot. Weighs less then 6lbs. Barrel is marked " Full".

This is how,I hunted from 1990 on for a few years. Just wearing Earth Tones.

Looking Forward to my 34th Spring.

What ammo are you using with the 16 ga ?  I toted my Ithaca 16 last season, but didn’t get any shots.  I think it pattered best (definitely not stellar) with  the factory modified choke barrel and high brass lead # 5’s.

This year, I didn’t want to waste slugs, re-sighting after changing out with my deerslayer slug barrel, so I’m going back to my 12 ga Remington 870 with 28” barrel and screw-in extra full choke tube with 3” lead #5’s.  That’s what I killed the only turkey that I ever shot at with, 3 years ago.

I’m into turkeys about as much as your into deer, mostly as an excuse to go visit my parents and my in-laws.  The only one  that I ever killed, was at our place though, on one fall when the turkey season here in the southern zone didn’t line up with the northern zone ML week.  Most years, I am up north, for most of the fall turkey season.
