Had a Good Run Anyways...

Cabin Fever

I was always thankful after hearing tick stories from other people, that for what ever reason, I had never had to worry about or deal with ticks in my area! Last night, I felt something odd on my back that I couldn't see, but was able to reach around a get a pic of. A friggin' tick! First one ever! I've been working in my yard a lot this spring cutting trees, so that has to be where I got it from! Damn it!! My daughter plucked it out last night.

Hate them nasty freaking things! Check with your Doc, just to be on the safe side Bob.

I'm keeping an eye on the bite area and it's still quite red and has a black spot in the middle. Hoping it's normal, but will speak to the doc if it doesn't clear up by Monday. I put the tick in a baggie and tossed it in the freezer, incase something develops and they would want to see or test it.

Being from a high tick area, I know that not always will someone get any symptoms. To be safe, your doctor may prescribe doxxy. An antibiotic that works well to prevent tick illnesses, when caught early.

Thanks Dave. I think just to be on the safe side, I'll call the doc on Monday...

Good luck! I grew up in tick infested areas of SENY. We always showered as soon as we came inside, checked our hair/bodies, etc. To this day, I do the same thing for myself and daughter too. All of my friends who don’t hunt or fish have gotten Lyme because they aren’t looking out for it. I’ve pulled countless ticks off me over the years but none were ever on very long to transmit anything thankfully.

I was just talking to a friend on Sunday that was at my house helping to cut some trees and was asking about ticks in the area. I told him I've been here 3 years now, but have never seen a tick. I'm in the woods running trail cams, but I've never seen or gotten any on myself! Guess I jinxed myself... :default_unsure:

Here in Webster the Dr will start me on meds before any tests come back . First time I called just to see what to do they had me come in asap ,gave me a script .

Also it’s very easy to leave a piece of it attached, after you think you’ve removed it , did that too , the Dr got the tiny remaining piece it out . I’d bet that black spot in the center is a piece of the tick .

I spray my boots , pack ect with Sawyers , “ tick proof socks “ as well ,I leave them in the garage when I get back from Canandaigua, and go shower . pants are tucked into the 16 inch treated boots of course and I take the boots off at the truck and change into shoes before getting in the cab  . If you treat your footwear it dramatically decreases your odds of getting ticks .

Im currently in Irondequoit home of large deer populations and ticks , daughter and sil are away and some teenagers have been raising hell around here  , and today broke a side window of her home  ,so,I’m sleeping here with a 12 ga and 9mm…Anyways they keep, the grass as short as possible ,treat all footwear and check themselves constantly so far so good after three years here  . Here’s a couple bedded out back tonight and one coming across front yard , I’m sure there’s more bedded now .

Every night before hitting the sack I stand in front of a mirror and check really good. I have no idea how many I have caught either crawling or starting to hook over the years. Along with getting lyme.  The one pictured above looks engorged so probably hooked for longer then 24 hrs.

Tick pullers work great. Take your time and a nice steady pull works best.(IMO) Alcohol the bite site.

If I found one that engorged I would definitely head to a dr.

As always just my humble opinion ~
