reeltime Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 My 2023 turkey tour started April 12th when we rolled into nebraska for a few days scouting prior to heading up to south dakota to start actually hunting. Way too much to tell the whole story of each hunt, I started actual hunting on 4/15/23 in south dakota had idle/travel days on 4/19, 4/21 4/24 4/16/23 south dakota merriams 4/20/23 nebraska merriams 4/23/23 wyoming merriams 4/25/23 kansas rio Arrived back at pa camp today to get in a couple scouting days or maybe go to west Virginia, I wanted to hit missouri on the way back but Judy had enough traveling. mowin Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 (edited) What a fantastic time line. Some fantastic birds. Congrats. First pic looks like snow it's so frosty. Edited April 27, 2023 by mowin
nywaw Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Wow what an awesome set of hunts! Well done and congrats!
Spysar Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Are the ones from NE and SD merriams or hybrids? Where I hunt in those 2 states for deer, all the turkeys are hybrids. They're also a lot dumber than our easterns. Awesome season, congrats.
The_Real_TCIII Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Ive been looking forward to this post Lee!
reeltime Posted April 27, 2023 Author Posted April 27, 2023 Thanks all, just got back in from scouting. It was certainly a learning experience logistics wise if or more so when I do this trip again I will lay out the hunt states better but was working around opening days and a tight schedule to be back for pa and by openers. For the most part had great weather, it's bone dry out therr even with all the snow they got over the winter. Lots of fires going on. When I killed my nebraska bird it was 40 plus mph winds, coming in his beard looked like a wind sock. Lol. 20 minutes later we got hit with a snow pellet blizzard. And it was 50 degrees out. South dakota it was 16 degrees the morning I killed my bird but by 10 am it was 50. Wyoming on Saturday it was a blizzard up on the mountain, Sunday morning when I left the truck it was 8 degrees. But by 9 am it was 40. Some more pics turkeyfeathers, dmandoes, nywaw and 8 others 11
Spysar Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Awesome. Did you hunt public or private? I love it out there. Killed many bucks in NE, and SD.

dbHunterNY Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 sounds and looks like it was a good trip. it's one thing to kill birds in the same area year after year. it's another to get it done in entirely different geographic regions. they just hunt different let alone the actual birds themselves.
