Tick (deer or dog?)

3 year old daughter was in bed tonight and yelling my hair my hair. I pulled this engorged tick off her. Leaning towards dog tick, as I’ve never come  across a tick so big. I’m used to deer ticks (not engorged). The gray color makes me think dog? Pediatrician put in 1 dose of Doxy for us to get tomorrow morning.

thoughts?

Please know that all ticks can carry disease. We focus too much on deer ticks and Lyme, but there are several other diseases that the many tick species in our area can carry such as ehrlichiosis, Q fever, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and others. A quick round of Doxycycline is extremely effective and easy to do. Don’t take chances.

Agree . She took one dose this morning. As vigilant as we are checking for ticks, we don’t know how long this one was on her. Clearly too long since it was Partially  engorged

there's different antibotics for the over half a dozen different dirty little stuff you can get from ticks. @2BuckBizCT i'd keep an eye on her and any symptoms she complains about. looks like a female deer tick. dog tick would be a little bigger at least the size of finger nail up to 1/2" or so. by the size it's been there for at least a few days.

if the tick was there when she was at doctor or a bulleye rash present then they default to 10-14 day cycle from what I remember. if you show up with it even but it's not attached then they can't/won't do as much. it's only a single dose of doxy you'd then get. same with an adult.

Never heard of a one dose of doxy.. maybe because of her age?  Anybody iv known that had to get doxy was a 10-14day cycle

Yes, I believe because of her age and no symptoms yet. It's a prophylaxis dose. Luckily for me, my brother is a clinical pharmacist so we were able to get his thoughts in addition to the pediatrician's- they both said the same thing

Yea, we are just watching her. She has not seen a doctor. I removed the tick fully saturday night. It was still alive and fully in tact today when I sent it to Yale for testing.
