Skillet
I want to hit Honeoye lake with the boat this weekend. I don't usually fish them til summer. Anyone have any early season tricks? I usually snap jig them or use blade baits on the weed edge, but there's not much of a weed edge this time of year. Any tips appreciated. Thanks. Robhuntandfish
Never fished there but out here early season shallower water . Stickbaits off rock points or try by inlet wherever they spawned. We slow troll at like .9 mph and use worm harnesses. Usually early season follow shallower transitions from 13-20ft are good. I also like more natural colors early then switch to brighter stuff later in season. I tend to work the baits slower til the water warms up. Look for rock shoals that are shallow like 8-15 ft that warm up more with limited sun. Then fish just off of them when sun gets high. Graph a lot of water and fish areas that wind has pushed bait to. Good luck.
