What Is This Gun?

The screen shot is off the local news broadcast this morning.   What is this gun and what’s on top?? Night vision??

The gun he's carrying is a paintball gun. The odd-looking thing on the top is called a hopper, it holds the paint balls and feeds the gun.

Thought the same but was wondering why a paintball gun??Understand non-lethal,maybe more effective than I thought they would be.have heard they hurt like hell,maybe balls are filled with something else??

LOL that's what I THOUGHT it looked like!  I'm surprised he'd be walking around with "evidence"?  Shortly before this incident there was a shooting about 1/2 mile away.  The news said four different law enforcement agency's responded to the above scene.

I know they make pepper balls that can be run through a paintball gun. I wonder if that’s what they are doing as a non lethal weapon.

Just my opinion but the " Balls " should be filled with Liquid Human Waste and used for Riot Control !  Nifty Idea Huh ?

And yes, all you lugnuts are correct.  I talked to an officer from the department shown in the picture above and he confirmed that it was in fact a pepper blaster.

When used by  law enforcement I believe the device in question is commonly referred to as a pepper ball gun or a tactical pepperball gun. Your definition of it is also accurate.
