Lawdwaz Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 For 61.5 years I didn’t have any allergies at all. Seems like this spring (last few weeks?) I’ve been sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes etc. Best I can think it’s a change in my system? I can think of a couple other changes I’d rather have…….
Robhuntandfish Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 When I was a kid I could roll in poison ivy and it didn't bother me. Now I seem to get it every year at some point. Doctor just gives me extra medicine to have on hand because of that. "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson
mowin Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 I never had allergies either, now I have very mild symptoms. I'm hopeful they don't get worse.
GreeneHunter Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 So far this year is the worst ! Nose hurts from blowing it all the time !
Moho81 Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 I’ve always had allergies and right now they are pretty bad. My dad was the same as you. No allergies all his until his late 50’s now he’s got em every year
2BuckBizCT Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 I never had tree pollen allergies till I was late teens. Only get it late April and May. For a few years I tried Claritin D daily. Tried local raw honey. And now I just do nothing. I know for 5-6 weeks a year I’ll suffer if I spend a whole day outside, but I do it anyway. Sunglasses make a huge difference. Even if I go outside for 5min I wear sunglasses. Helps a ton as does Flonase sensimist nasal sprays.
Doebuck1234 Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 A few people I know with no recent allergies are having problems this year,i never got em bad until the last few years... Think alot to blame is the mild winter, tree's are already pretty full
Moho81 Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 I could barely sleep last night because my allergies where so bad. Stuffed nose and a dry mouth made it difficult to breath. It's going to be a long miserable day today at work. Lawdwaz 1

She thought maybe she had covid.
Bucksnbows Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 They say it’s one of the all time worse tree pollen years. I get mild symptoms and just deal. But my wife gets them badly and she’s been suffering. Lawdwaz Posted May 16, 2023 Author Posted May 16, 2023 How the hell do you differentiate between allergies and a cold other than testing?

Me personally, I have had bad allergies all my life so I know what they feel like versus a cold but for other people that don't normally have allergies I can only imagine that they think it's a cold. I know my mom and sister are affected this year by allergies and they don't normally have them so they tested just to make sure as they where around a birthday party on Saturday then mothers day dinner Sunday.
nywaw Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Pollen has been killing me. Never had allergies as a kid or in my 20s/30s. Once 40s hit I feel like I've been getting crushed. This is what it's like down here...every single tree. My oaks have a million thistles too. Blanket of pollen over the landscape, cars, etc.

I never get itchy eyes if im fighting off a head cold or something. Also, if I'm indoors for a few hours and symptoms subside it is obvious it's pollen related. I'm in NYC today and have zero issues, way less trees than being home surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods. Here's a nice chart for ya: Lawdwaz 1
