Belo Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 This is my favorite new app by far. Maybe some of you have had it for a while, but I just learned about it. It's completely free on the app store and run by Cornell. You can use it to ID birds via a photos, but the best feature is to just hit record and it'll start listing off all the birds as they sing. Every new bird adds to the list and will highlight yellow as it's making noise. Below is what I had in just 30 minutes Saturday Morning turkey hunting at the edge of a field. mowin Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 (edited) That's pretty neat. Edited May 15, 2023 by mowin
The_Real_TCIII Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 I used to work for a guy that came in one day and said he had a Baltimore Oriole at his feeder. I broke his balls for a solid 35 minutes about it just being an oriole. "Were there any Toronto Blue Jays? How about a Pittsburgh penguin? Did a Kansas jayhawk appear??" on and on. Fast forward to the next day when he produces a book that shows it is in fact a Baltimore oriole. I made no apology. BowmanMike, Belo, mowin and 4 others 1 6

I have to confess that until this app I always thought it was a morning dove... turns out... mourning. face palm. haha. Otto Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 I just downloaded it, can't wait to try it out. Even with my partial hearing, I hear all kinds of bird song, but have no clue which bird is which.
Robhuntandfish Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 I've only seen these twice in my life both times during turkey hunts. Had to look them up right then and used the Cornell site. Scarlet Tanager. BowmanMike Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 That app is great!! It makes it easy to learn a birds song for future identification, and it is just plain fun to see how many different birds are around. Rusty 1

I had my students download this app and we walked around the woods listening to birds. Short bus class or regular? Asking for a friend.....I think I can post that here on the NY site Rusty 1 "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board

Cabin Fever Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 I have a hawk that grabs "take out" at my bird feeder pretty much on a daily basis. I snapped a pic of it yesterday after it snatched a red winged black bird. I thought it was a Coopers hawk, but used the app to positively ID it from the pic I took. Belo, Bucksnbows and Rusty 3
