http://www.nycrossbowcoalition.com could use your help. They are trying to get full inclusion for hunters over age 55. Change the requirement so you need to have a bow course to hunt with crossbow. Do away with poundage and width restrictions. Allow 12 and 13 year old hunter to use a crossbow.

Go to the site. Scroll to the bottom and give some brief info. This will be sent to NYS lawmakers deciding the crossbow bills presented. Time is short. We need to make the common sense changes. To finally bring crossbow to older hunters.

Just info to those who want this change. Not a debate on crossbow vs bow. We've all spoke our mind on the subject. Many, many times.

Thanks for your consideration.

We here in NJ went through this issue over a decade ago now. It was very controversial for some, but NJ now allows crossbows for any age in any archery season.  NY is attempting something less inclusive than what we did here.  My daughter would not have been able to hunt using traditional archery gear and only a crossbow allowed her to hunt deer and bear. My best friend gave up his compound last year due to shoulder injury, and he’s 58 and can only use a crossbow.

I personally still love my Hoyt, but I see a time in the not so distant future where I will also need a crossbow to keep hunting archery seasons.  That said, I support any weapon type that brings more or keeps more hunters as our numbers continue to dwindle.

Done, but why is this in the bow hunting section?

Because a crossbow is still a type of bow.  We don't have separate forums for longbows, recurves, compounds, or crossbows.  It is just "bowhunting".

I’m all for getting/keeping the aging hunters in the woods, but calling my raven a “bow” is absurd.

The word "bow" is right there.  Crossbows go back to the Middle Ages.  Sure, today's modern crossbow looks nothing like the early crossbows, but then again, neither does today's modern scoped deer rifle look anything like a flintlock of merely 150 years ago.

Exactly todays carbon riser, 80% let off,  double  or sinlge cammed compound bows are nothing like along  bow or recurve of 1000 years ago or even 40 years ago..

Done. Would like to see it happen.  Last year was the first time in over 40 years that I didn't go out with the "bow" due to some health issues that prevented me from being able to draw it. Was able to get out with the crossbow. Would like more than 2 weeks!

With the amount of taxes I give to NY and the price of the hunting licenses, it sure would be nice.

Take it anyways! I know several who do and are well of age and not very able to draw a compound.
