Lawdwaz
After an hour or so of checking trail cam cards yesterday, I woke up to a %?"#$&*@ tick latched on to my belly this morning. I didn't really know what it was at first.....I saw a dried bloody spot and wondered what the heck it was. Scratched at it for a second and it didn't come off...scratched a little harder and then saw it was a little tick My wife grabbed a little container from the kitchen and I put the little bastard in it, still alive of course. It was red then and is still red now, looks like ass. Hit it with alcohol (not JD, rubbing) then some antibacterial cream. Now what? corydd7, GreeneHunter, nywaw and 1 other 3

Chances are you have nothing to worry about. If you see a bullseye rash, call your doc and he or she will call in a Doxycycline prescription. Or you can bring the tick to wherever your doctor tells you for testing. But chances are good you have no concerns. nywaw and NYRturkeycall 2 "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board

escpen
I’d try to get a doxy prescription regardless of how long it was attached. From experience, Lyme and other tick borne illnesses really suck … I still deal with some symptoms from time to time after being on various antibiotics for 6+ months and dealing with debilitating symptoms for the better part of a year. Better safe than sorry! corydd7, Robhuntandfish, Nomad and 2 others 4

DirtTime
Err on the side of caution and call your doc. The crap those little suckers spread isn't worth the risk of waiting for any signs to start showing up. jperch 1 _
blackbeltbill
I never got that Bullseye Rash. You need Antibiotics if you think that Tick got to your Blood Supply... I got bit in the Month of June doing yardwork around 2015. My Symptoms were - Eyes unable to Focus-Double Vision. Unable to walk without Falling after a few steps. And the Most Horrible Headache in the very back of my Brain . 3 Days in the Hospital and Antibiotics. Hope you are ok. Take The Multiple Use Area Challenge. 2BuckBizCT
If it wasn’t engorged and you know you picked it up that day then you’ll be good. It wasn’t on you for more than a few hours. That’s Lyme I’m talking about. But keep an eye for other tick borne illness symptoms. Maybe you can send the tick in for testing in NY? Robhuntandfish
I had Lyme disease. Was out all one day in the woods working and then picking blackberries, a day + later huge headaches and fatigue. Knew something was wrong. Behind my left knee a bullseye rash. Never saw a tick. My Dr put me on antibiotics right away and I was better in a day. She also said she is very skeptical about the 48 hour theory, as she has had multiple people in that she doesnt believe took that long. She said if it's gotten to your blood it is possible to be infected and 48 hrs is a guideline at best. Go to the Dr and get the Doxy, its well worth it. I have hardly taken any antibiotics in my life so not like I take them all the time. You needed the Doxy for sure, but I wonder about the loss of effectiveness of people taking it when not needed multiple times before really needing it? That was our concern with my daughter. she's 3 and will be bit again by a deer tick at some point. Luckily, she only took 1 dose, had no symptoms, and tick tested negative. They actually gave me 10 days worth of antibiotics. Now they just give a couple of Doxy. Prob for that reason unless you have a full blown case of it. I've had a standing order for Doxy from my primary for years, but have never had to pick it up. I'm like 0 for 257 deer ticks pulled off in my career without any engorgement or symptoms (including 1 my wife then girlfriend had to pull off my cock). My annual bloodwork checks for lyme, but i'm still clear. Edited May 23, 2023 by 2BuckBizCT Otto

Farflung
Both times I got ticked, it was caught early. Doxycycline course and I was o.k. Some of my co- workers in DEC were not so lucky. One did not get it figured out quickly and it got bad enough that he had to retire. Lawdwaz and blackbeltbill
