Redneck4Life Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Just filled up in September at 4.59 gallon costed me $1078. My home uses it for heating and hot water. So to try to keep the payment reasonable we decided to fill up again once it hit a half a tank. Fill up came today 5.89 gallon $750. Looks like its going to be an expensive winter. grampy, Robhuntandfish and NYRturkeycall 3

corydd7 Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Yeah I paid $5.70 a couple weeks ago. Started running my wood stove yesterday and will run it till April if needed. I hate a cold house, nothing better then a wood stove. Nomad, GreeneHunter and Upstate Nerdneck 3
Moho81 Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Yep, I fortunately have natural gas but just talked to a friend who just paid $2600 to top his tank off. I think he said he got locked in for the year at $5.19 otherwise it was $5.49. He's at $3,700 total so far in heating costs for the year.
The Back 40 Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 I replaced my old oil furnace with a high efficiency propane unit a few years ago (no natural gas here). The new furnace and air purifier came in at about $5K with installation. I financed it through E&V and it costs about $110 a month for 5 years. I ended up saving about $300 in heating cost each month over the oil. Although oil provides more BTU's per gallon vs propane the older units are so inefficient, they can't keep up with the newer high efficiency units and they are much cleaner burning, so they don't require as much cleaning.
grampy Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Sad to see that so many will struggle to keep warm this winter. Bucksnbows and Doebuck1234 2
Bucksnbows Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Switching to natural gas about 9 years ago was the best investment we’ve made in our home over the last 25 years. I feel for all those burning home heating oil this winter! "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
grampy Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Thankfully, when we purchased this home 18 months ago it included a brand new Nat Gas furnace. We were amazed at how efficient it was last winter. Regardless. It's going to cost us all more this winter.
nywaw Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 This topic came up on the NJ site a couple months ago due to the shortages and price increases. This is the site I use now to order from, here is their NY specific page: https://www.cashheatingoil.com/oilpricesinny The NJW&W topic if anyone is interested: https://www.njwoodsandwater.com/forums/topic/58298-home-heating-oil/
mowin Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Hopefully we won't see a spike in house fires, and CO deaths due to the insanely high fuel prices. People, mainly elderly, are going to use space heaters, ovens, kerosene heaters, to try and stay warm. grampy, Nomad, Cabin Fever and 1 other 4
Cabin Fever Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 WOW! I have propane and got locked into $2.69/gallon this year and I thought that stung! I was paying $1.89/gallon last year.
Redneck4Life Posted November 17, 2022 Author Posted November 17, 2022 We're looking at buying a new pellet stove. We went down in October to 2 different places and gave them our name and number they said they would call us and come out and see what we got to work with. Now end of November and still no phone calls or messages. Wife is going to call a new place today and see what they can do. I'll drop the money on it get a 26% tax credit. Hopefully they'll be able to get it done before I have to order fuel again.

But not cheap. Redneck4Life and DDT 2

The new ones have timers and can be controlled via Bluetooth. Redneck4Life 1

That’s actually a very good point , every power outage that lasts a day or more people break out the alternative heat and light sources and catching a fire from those was certain . mowin 1
