Often wondered if banning a poacher from hunting is a deterrent.

Poaching by its definition means one didn't abide by existing laws, so how effective is a ban?

Went in to the local bakery store just b4 turkey season had camo jacket on and the guy working there says  do you hunt i said yea then he tells  me his friend shot a turkey the other day im thinking did they change the dates?  anyway i did not saying anything and left.  Either the guy shot it out of season or maybe in a different state that  had  a different season I don't know I didn't ask what state he shot it .   But probably that stuff goes on all the time.

I'm sure it does.  I've heard of some popping them off roost during rifle season.  Idiots...

Back in the 1990s and until around 2005 or so,I would hear Magnum Gun Shots in the Pre-Dawn in the Month of April while out Turkey Scouting in NY.

Thankfully  after around 2005,I started to see plenty more Turkey Scouters out in the Pre-Dawn during the April- ( Gobbling Frenzy). More Eyes in the Woods and the Magnum Shots were heard much less.

Now there are Trail Cameras everywhere  on the Multiple  Use Areas. And right there- that is a deterrent  to April Gobbler Poaching.

Take The Multiple Use Area Challenge.
