This willl happen in CT in the next year or two. So far all the attacks people/kids have luckily survived. Only a matter of time. Over 70 home invasions by bears last year in CT. Major issue

Sounds like northern NJ

Terrible tragedy.  Black bears certainly aren't the "friendly" and "harmless" cuddly animals they are sometimes made out to be.  Real life sure isn't a Disney movie.

Late April in New Jersey,I saw a medium sized Black Bear approach my Calling setup where,I was 10 minutes prior. Saw him walk off and,I decided to leave.  I think ,I was dealing with 2 Black Bears.  Here comes the Black Bear walking parallel  with me and Higher  up.

I reverse course for another way out. Large semi circle to reach the Start of a Steep Trail. Up,I go- Port Arms with my Shotgun. I look down after  walking steeply up a good 50 feet and there he is . Right at the Bottom and staring straight up.

Pretty sure,I was dealing with 2 Black Bears.  If he started up- I was going to put the Bead between his Eyes and take them out.

I have had in excess of 20 Black Bear encounters- all close. They usually  Run . This Black Bear/s was definitely  Stalking me.    I always take 7 Shells with me while Turkey Hunting and,I reccomend  everyone  take at least 5.

Usually if a black bear attacks, it means to eat you.

before or after. often its a transient bear that doesn't know what to make of you at first and then you run or start attacking like prey, so it wants to eat you. often situations are run ins with a sow and cubs. that's defensive at first but then hey there's a meal laying right there.

You need to be very careful also when those Black Bears are super Hungry  after their Semi- Hibernation.

A growing problem  is Hikers Eating on Trail and leaving a trail of Food . Bears learn to follow. Associating People with Food or the person as a potential  Food Source.

Keep checking your Backtrail.  And be ready to Shoot. Carry 2 good Knifes.

no doubt bears after torpor have a insatiable appetite that drives their motives. the ones i listed are the biggest ones around here.
