virgil Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 My 2001 Polaris seems to be dead- it’s not starting again and I can’t seem to find anyone who will work on a machine that old. Looking for recommendations for a new one. Hoping not to spend a fortune. I really only use it for hunting- transporting stands in/out of the woods, dragging deer, etc. I just want a reliable machine that won’t break the bank.

How’s the reliability and ease of maintenance on the Can Am rigs? Dealer network? dbHunterNY 1

My nephew has gotten very good at fixing old atv. Parts are cheap on the internet. Has picked up and repaired several from the 80s and 90s virgil and dbHunterNY 2

Mines a 2006 beat it harder than most will no issues. Several options in wny if you need a repair. I got mine used and guy i got it went to a polaris and regrets it every day.. out of the 3 that sit in the barn the can am is grabbed by all and used the most. Favorite of niece for ease of use and ride. Honda are great long lasting machines but can am is step above. 2 hondas here as well . The ride is quite different.
G-man Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 I would recommend buying new over used. If your going to spend good money Lot of modifications done to many different machines. You may find a deal only to find problems used and used sell very fast if good machine.. Belo and virgil 1 1
mowin Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Absolutely love my Polaris sportsman 570. Bought it new in '19 and use it all the time. Never a single issue. The only thing I wish I had gotten was power steering.

Robhuntandfish Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 we have a 400 polaris. Drags the brush hog and all the work we do without an issue. I think you can get a brand new one for about 8k. virgil 1 "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson
Buckmaster7600 Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Honda or Yamaha, owned/been around them all and those 2 just don’t have issues. Rob-c, Upstate Nerdneck and grampy 3
virgil Posted July 20, 2023 Author Posted July 20, 2023 Gonna go and look at a dealership tomorrow. From a bit of quick research, I like the reliability reputation of Honda. G-man, GreeneHunter and Buckmaster7600 2 1

Yamaha is right there with Honda for reliability , do yourself a favor and test ride a Yamaha after the Honda . I think you’ll be surprised . virgil 1
