G-man Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Though most refer to a skull mount as a european and not a western there is a difference . While a western usually just is the whole skull boiled and bleached. A European (also sometimes called a half skullmount) has the upper palette cut off just below the nose removing the teeth and botton of brain case .this actually allows for easier cleaning of the brain case and nasal cavity. . Compared to traditional western skull mounts (everyone misnames european) Ppersonally i prefer the european as western mounts unless done properly where teeth are glued in after cleaning never seem to sit properly on a plack and have actually created a whole new style of skull hanger /shelf to properly display... nywaw Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Cool! I never knew there was a difference! cervidchasers 1
The_Real_TCIII Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 I got this cool mount from a guy on Archery Talk, I had to wire the skull on however because as you say the teeth prevent it from seating securely. Ive also had to glue LI back on a few times. 518BowSlayer 1
grampy Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 I prefer the european mounts over the western myself. Got quite a few of them now, scattered about. G-man 1

I have what's called the western mounts in G-man's post. But they are commonly called euro mounts here. Making that cut looks like it could be a real pain? But I may give it a go on my next one? See how it comes out? The_Real_TCIII 1

Nomad Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Thanks Gman ! I’m not much of a display guy, but I’ve got a few tens, I thought of screwing onto a piece of barn wood, I think that would be easier with the half skull . Heres 4 of ‘em in their current display in the basement ,two euros and two on plaques my buddy does . G-man and cervidchasers 2
