blackbeltbill
And so it starts again on October 1st. What,I wait all year for. Walking those Pheasant Fields, Open Hardwoods, and Wetlands. Other Pheasant Hunters blowing their Whistles ,Calling to their Pheasant Dogs ,The Tingle of the Bells around the Hunting Dogs Necks are all Music to my Ears! ABBEY is Stoked! 9 years old now with Crystal White Teeth and plenty of Rock Hard Muscle. She is my Sister's Flat- coated Black Lab. I buy her Food- Purina True Instinct/Turkey. $40 Bucks for 15lbs. She gets walked a good 1 mile everyday. Can't wait to hunt the Field first and straight to my Beloved Wetlands where the Pheasants get pushed to. The more Indian Heads to walk through- the Better. ABBEY has a good pattern and circles back often. Her Winding is easy to see. And when She moves slow in Stalking mode- it is time to move up quick as a Pheasant will be Flushed up very soon. Rock Walls in the Wetlands is a favorite place . Plenty of upward explosions of Fast wing beats and the Loud Cackling of Rooster Pheasants. BOOM- The Pheasant drops out of the Sky. Further into the Wetlands and into the open Hardwoods we go. Timberdoodles might wing up with their erratic Flight pattern. Head Down- Lead- and follow through and another Bird goes into the Orange Vest. The Loud Beeps on many Dog Collars are often heard. That Pheasant Dog is on Point! -- Hurry over there Guys. A Special Water Bottle comes out and ABBEY gets a good long drink. And back to business as She is Stoked the whole time- almost relentless. The more serious Pheasant Hunters get way back in the Woods after hitting the Fields. -- There- a Group of 3 Men and 2 long ranging German Shorthairs are after a obviously running Pheasant deep in the Woods. Loud Whistles and Spirited Yelling- again - all music to my ears. Then a quick succession of 3 quick shots from 2 Shotguns is heard. Fetch him up! The long walk out and positive/ good natured talking with other Pheasant Hunters on the way and in the parking lot. It could go on for 30 minutes. October is here-- This is what we live for. Lawdwaz
You can really stroke the keys Bill…..have you considered writing a book on pheasant hunting? Abbey is getting up there in age but I guess, (thankfully) we all are. She’s got to get loaded with burrs being long haired. Your sister must be thrilled to see that. 🤬

I think all here who post regularly are Good Writers as well. I actually lost money in writing my 4 Books.Interesting hobby over 4 years and something,I wanted to do from 2011-14. ABBEY will only go out just once a Week for a good 1 Hour or so. She gets full recovery as an older Pheasant Hunting Dog that way. I will slip out by myself or go with Cynthia and COOPER. I have to Brush ABBEY Good for a good 10 minutes or so to remove the Burrs. She wears a expensive Flea and Tick Collar to any Ticks that get on her in the Fields. Lawdwaz
Dogs certainly are a lot of work and responsibility. You reap what you sow. blackbeltbill
Buckmaster7600
I’ve tried it but hunting a released domesticated bird just isn’t for me. I understand it’s more for the dog than the hunter but I just can’t get into it. blackbeltbill
