What Regulations and Rules Would You Change?

You have been the newly appointed emperor of the NYS DEC and can make any changes to any fish and game rules without any red tape. Does not include non-hunting and fishing rules related to firearms like the safe act.

What do you do?

Full inclusion of crossbow.  But, I don't get to make those decisions, the legislation does.

Establish an autonomous outside Fish & Game Council with appointees, only one of which comes from the Governor's office to oversee fish and game regulation moving forward.  That keeps things away from most of the political winds that change, and often for the worse for hunters especially.

Id shit myself cause it will never happen in NYS. 

I'd open up the early doe season in some different wmu's and make it open for bow, xbow.  Can't figure how they picked the ones they did when they missed the wmu's that have some of the highest amount of doe permit allocation.  

Id have a limited moose draw for the Adirondacks.  Very limited to like 3 but it would raise thousands for restoration.  All proceeds go to that. 

I would offer full inclusion of xbow for the archery season.  And then most likely do away with early season youth gun as they have the ability to hunt bow season now.  

I would block all access of DEC accounts from legislature reassignment. 

But for the most part I can't complain. I like all the seasons and options, length and amount of tags.  NYS has a lot of other problems that need fixing before this.  

Had to add.... I would do a study on controlled burns in the Adirondack park.  Esp those terrible reforested pines.  There are so many areas that could have better habitat for all sorts of game, than just old growth forest and rows of replanted pines.

1) Split archery season 50/50 between “traditional” (recurves and longbows only) October 1-14 and “modern” (compounds and crossbows) October 15-day before gun opener.  
 

2) Give a 3rd either/or tag to those who purchase archery, gun, & ML privileges.

Agreed about the ADKs. Needs to be improved which would benefit all parties involved.

Ask for three years' salary in advance. Cash the check, say I'm retiring, and move to Vermont. Why? Because even in that role I'm not allowed to make executive orders or decisions so no matter what I tried it would get shot down or left to rot like the moose season papers that were left on Andy's desk that he never signed for the green light.

Remove useless pine where appropriate.

Bounty on coyotes. 

Close fall turkey where appropriate.

Bring back farming. Tell NYC to go fuck themselves. Build a water filter system if necessary on their own dime. 
 

Cull some of the birds of prey.

Restock game birds. 
 

Kill crows year round. 
 

Bring back kids with BB guns.

Why the push for logging/burning in the adk’s? 
 

I’ve hunted states/providences “Maine new Hampshire, Ontario” that have more logging and think the Adk’s are perfect the way they are.
