Once again, I can’t play. Can I give a hint??

It's your quiz, you can do whatever you want!

And yes, there is a connection between these and deer, so it's appropriate for this site.  :)

I can definitively say that for all three species now in the US, it’s bad for all the males after they mate.

Well, I've never seen a doe eat the head off a buck after he planted his seed.

Of the 3 species we have, which one is this and is it native?

Hint: one of my buddies smashes these every time he sees one!

Maybe just because you have a small sample size? How many times have you watched deer breed?

I have heard of people finding bucks bucks with just their heads cut off...

I've actually seen deer breed several times.  It is kinda comical.

That’s Tenodera, the Chinese mantis. Non native and taking over everywhere I see them. Initially accidentally released near Philadelphia and now spreading like crazy.

It looked awfully big. I saw a tiny one a few years ago. I spend a lot of time outside but they are a rare find. I hope those big ones don't come up this way....

The Chinese mantis is twice as big as our native Carolina mantis.  As a result it eats much larger prey, including the native mantis.
