New Feature: NRA forum and RSS feed

Recommended Posts

Posted

Similar to the NJ site, I set up an automated RSS feed to a new NRA forum so anything they post/share news wise will be published here.

If you have other organizations you'd like to get news feeds from that I can add in a similar way, please let me know!

is there a way to turn this off from showing up on the recent topics section? I'm an off and on again member of the NRA but it's kinda clogging up stuff with the hunting that I'd rather see. Like I honestly don't care about a city in colorado's legislation or a lawsuit in Oregon.

Not a big deal, but would like to turn it off if I can. They dip into some politics too that I know myself and others would like to avoid.

Yes, just click on it once, hit the red “ignore” button, and you won’t see it again. No different than any other forum.

I can definitely see these feeds being a bit much and overwhelming the frontpage for members who may not be interested in the posts.  As @Bucksnbowssaid, the best option is to ignore the forum or to customize an Activity Stream that only includes the things you want to see and set it as your default stream.

Also, if we do find the number of posts becomes too crazy even for those interested in the news, we'll come up with an alternate approach with a separate page for it.

thanks. mostly just sensitive to what new members would see or those browsing before joining. As you know, it was a very contentious issue on the old site and I'd hate for those interested in hunting to stop by and just see a bunch of gun stuff. I love guns, but I also love hunting and fishing and that's why I come here. The most challenging times are post deer season winter and post turkey summer.

Is there a way to filter the feed so it's only NY? Most of the recent feed is on Maryland, Canada and other states that do not affect us directly. I think the awareness is important, but also think most members would like to see federal and state only if we could.

i'll go away now.

I think that what is happening in other states is just as important as to what is happening in NY. If they aren’t in affect here they could be someday.   I think the information from other states and the federal level should be noted here so people can see what the gun control people are proposing!!  I hope this @NRA guy keeps it up!!!  And thank you NYW&W for allowing these to be posted!!!

There isn't, it's just a direct feed.  I may explore ways to do this but it would have to be outside of forums and on a separate page.  I do agree with @boo711 though, it's important to get insight from all around

we're already in NY man. I get your point, but as I've said before this is a hunting site. There are dozens of gun forums out there and a lot of this stuff is politically charged and waters down the hunting side of things a little.

That's part of the challenge with sites/forums and we're seeing it here in this conversation.  Two people have different wants from their page viewing, but fortunately you can customize it to ignore the forums you aren't interested in (are too gun heavy, too political, etc).  That's the best of all worlds, everyone can customize it the way they want.  In fact you can customize your Activity Feed (front page) to be exactly what you want and where you want it from, then save it as your default view

We just can't get as granular as topic level keyword match filtering.
