I haven’t been able to trap since my college days, but I always say I’m going to take it up again when I retire. I learned more about the power of observation by taking up trapping than anything else I have done in life. I tell newbies that trapping will make them better hunters, anglers and foragers because you are forced to find and read sign and habitat.

So for now, I live vicariously through our other trappers. And if anyone around the greater Cooperstown area needs to find a beaver spot, just PM me.

Close again but no cigar.

We've all been there.....frustrating as Hell. Maybe a little subtle blocking will put his foot on the pan ? I usually offset the pan a couple of inches to one side or the other instead of straight on because he's going to want to smell what's in the hole. Therefore, his paws will be on each side of the hole increasing your odds of a catch. That's my theory for what it's worth. Trapping is a game of inches sometimes . You still might get him although the season is almost over. Good luck !!!
