Hen Down.

    Out with ABBEY this morning on Public. She Trailed and Flushed up a Hen Pheasant  after 5 intense minutes.

    Quick Shot and unfortunately the Hen fell into a huge Briar Patch. Unable to retrieve  the Hen. 

  Been out a good 12 times with her so far.

You didn't go get it because of briars?  Maybe this is coming from a guy that spent 5 hours in a briar filled swamp hellhole looking for a deer ....but why not?  If you know it's there why are you leaving downed game?  And I could be missing something here, maybe you couldnt pinpoint where it was?

I missed the part you left it.  

Abbey still gets a pat on the head for her job.  But leaving game because of prickers is plain lazy.

Hunting where I've hunted over the years, there are no briars I'll ever come across that I can't get through if I need to.  A pair of hand shears/clippers go a long way!

The yelling of "Bird Down" was enough to send my dog in a frenzy!  He would search for a Dead Bird as long as I let him.

I've crawled through some of the toughest briar patches around to retrieve a dead rabbit. Maybe BBB wounded the bird and she scrambled through the brambles and he couldn't recover her? I've lost a few rabbits when they crawled into a hole after being wounded. Surely there's more to the story. Regardless, kudos to Abby!

I have never let a few prickers stop me from retrieving game. NEVER!

  I had to Get ABBEY out of there. Extremely Dense and close Packed Thorns . The potential  for Eye Injury or losing a Eye is Damn High.

Tie Abby off and go in yourself.  I wouldn't let her in there either but I also would've went in myself. If it was turkey would you have left it?
