There was a couple guys From PA that belonged to the group of poachers we helped DEC bust on our properties in Steuben, after they stole, trespassed and poached on us. This hit home. Glad they found them. People are Scum bags.

Ny laws are a joke when it comes to this. They will ban their hunting licences ( they weren't using them anyway) for a period of time or life.  Get a small fine.  Will go somplace else and do the same...

Any update on the N Tonawanda guys?

Have to agree.  Right from DEC:

Spotlighting

You may use lights to observe deer and bear under the following conditions:

You are not within 500 feet of a home or farm building, unless you have permission from the owner or lessee.

While in or on a motor vehicle and operating a light and no person has a firearm or bow unless:

the firearm is taken down or the bow is unstrung, or

the firearm is securely fastened in a case, or

the firearm is locked in the trunk of the vehicle, or

the firearm is a handgun.

The charges:

The two received multiple tickets for violating penal and environmental laws. These charges included possessing a loaded gun in a vehicle, having an unsecured gun while operating a spotlight, and fleeing officers.

They were not caught in the act of poaching; no shots fired/animal wounded or killed.  They received tickets and will hire a lawyer who will plea bargain, rather than go to trial,  the situation to technical violation while spotlighting (loaded/unsecured gun),  pay a fine and all resolved.  I do not  believe they will lose their license, if they even had one.

Tossing a loaded rifle out of a speeding vehicle ought to be illegal, especially if an unloaded one not locked in a case is a felony

Only a felony if they leave it in the vehicle unattended per the new laws. How many of us have followed that law this year. Lol

I took care of guys doing the same thing.. NY threw the book at them, not a ton of jail time but several years jail, convicted in many counties for the same thing. One string of events leads to another.. But they can only enforce what they can prove. So we have to help them do their job in this liberal state.. And NY just added several dozen more Officers starting next week.. They're getting there.

I'm sure Gov. Hochul would oblige you in making more firearm related issues/incidents  felonies!  Appreciate making these felonies prohibits the convicted individual from ever owning firearms in the future.  Her target is YOU, as she does not want anyone owning firearms and this is a means to that end, 2A be damned!

I am confident that NY adding more Officers is not because Hochul wants more enforcement of game laws but more people (hunters, because you have guns) snagged by her unconstitutional gun laws!

Be careful what you wish for has never been more profound than this scenario.

Im not sure I follow you. If tossing a loaded firearm out a window is a felony I am cool with it. The unlocked firearm case in a locked car felony I am not

Econ Officers have been under staffed since Day 1. Hence the reason they can only do so much. I agree, adding more officers can certainly change the way grounds are governed. but the state has asked for more help with trespassers, thieves, and poachers. and now they are getting it. Id also have to tell you that each Officer I've spoke with in the last 2 years is not a fan of the way things are going down, so I highly doubt they will be at your door step to strip you of your rights.. these guys seem to be more well rounded than many NYSP I've met..

DEC has been understaffed and underfunded their entire existence.    Today, there is more wildlife/game and less hunters.  I cannot believe it is "coincidence" that the timing of the increase is on the heels of Gov. Hochul's anti gun laws.  I do not expect them to be at my doorstep.  Law enforcement is all about metrics to justify their existence and need; and they do "trump" up charges.   I expect that in the field when they find no wildlife/game infraction they will then look to Hochul's gun laws.
