Nephew wants to get a ML.  I'm not sure on the laws since the queen changed everything.

Is there a background check on ML, or do you just walk out with it?

i know you can't do a NICS check for them because FBI won't allow it. Not sure if you still have to call it in to NYSP. The NYSP NICS site just says that information is forthcoming to process background checks for muzzleloaders. So I think the answer is just walk out with it but not sure. I'll know around 1pm when I head to the shop.

I bought one a few weeks ago, no background check, no $9 fee. I believe @dbHunterNYis correct, still considered an improper use of the NICS system.

So, I guess it's a store by store thing. Just called bass pro in Utica and the definitely do a background check for ML.

They document specific form for record keeping. I forget the number that the form is called.

If you want a CVA let us know. A lot are in stock at our distributors. Shipping is doable.

just asked a friend who got a Triumph Smoke pole with the new Fire Stick powder charges. He had to get a background check for that because of the fire stick design he was told. you didn't need to go through a check to purchase the Fire Sticks though. I know because I just bought some. lol

Reviving an old thread here.

I just ordered a muzzleloader off of gunbroker. The seller contacted me asking for an FFL.

My FFL called the check system and verified that yes, even a flintlock now requires a background check in NY.

Yep, in late spring NYS came up with it's own BG check form for muzzleloaders (similar to the ammo check). NICS won't run them, so they had to create their own which is why there was a few months of lag behind ammo. It's a pain now, especially for selling.
