I was under the impression everyone used Rakuten for years when making online purchases for free $ back. I’ve been using it since 2018. I was shocked to learn today that some people still don’t know about this?!? Especially during the holidays when they bump up to 10-20% back.

He is in many ways a robot but this post isnt. We were talking about Rakutan last night, you do get a bunch of money back for stuff you were buying anyway

Try googling it. I guess you are one of the ones missing out. It's been around for years. You click through their website to do online shopping, sometimes in store also. They get a commission I guess but from the buyers perspective you just get a check in the mail 4 times per year.

This isn't a scam.  From my understanding it was once Fat Wallet, then bought by eBates, then bought by or renamed to Rakuten.

Yea, idk the history before rakuten but i started using it late 2018. I get a check 4 times per year. Years ago it used to be a lot more companies and 10-20% was common. Now it's less, but today for cyber monday is a lot of 20%.

What is this? And how does the cashback work? is it money that you can only spend on their website? Are they selling returned or defective items?

I’ve used Rakuten since 2018. You get a check 4 times per year. They aren’t selling anything. You just go to Rakuten before you go to an online store and see if there’s any discounts. Typically around Xmas time they bump the %’s way up. Screenshot of what it looks like. You click the store and it’s their normal website. No strings attached. I assume Rakuten gets $ for feeding traffic to stores? Idk. My example above is my wife wanted a coat for Xmas from Bloomingdales. We waited until Rakuten did a 10% deal and now I’ll get $107 back in a few months.

Wife and I where Xmas shopping for the kids the other night so I signed up. Only ended up buying a few things through Rakuten and the rest through Amazon but I still got money back for doing nothing.

I bet in two years time those checks would have bought you a NYS Life Time license..........dang, that would have been a good move.
