Bolt Action Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Looking for a recommendation on a taxidermy shop within an hour drive of Rochester. I've been wanting to have a cape done. Wednesday's doe would be perfect since I shot it through the neck, and there won't be any holes in the cape. Figured I'd ask here before looking online.

I use Scott Samolis in Honeoye. I think he’s done 4 of mine. Bolt Action 1

Nomad Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Can’t help ,but I’m fortunate to have a cape done by the legendary Anthony Scorza , at his shop in E.R. In like the ‘90s . He mounted Ling Ling the giant Panda that was given to the U.S. as a gift from China back in the day , after he died , Tony was chosen to mount it for the Smithsonian . dbHunterNY, Bolt Action and cervidchasers 3

Bolt Action Posted December 8, 2023 Author Posted December 8, 2023 I'm not all that Savvy on the different kinds of hide preservation. What I was looking for was for the hide to be clean and soft on the one side and the fur intact on the other side. Was hoping that a local taxidermist could either do the job or at least point me in the right direction if he could not.

If you can skin /flesh/salt the hide send it here .Will get you the best and softest tan in the states .Cost I believe is $75 for a deer hide to tan with hair on . https://www.moyle.net Bolt Action 1

Just drop it off with Greg, he will get it done for you even if he needs to send it out. Bolt Action 1
WNY Bowhunter Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I'd try this place in Holley, NY: http://www.buckshottannery.com/north-american Most taxidermist send their soft tans out to be done. The biggest local tannery in the Central NY area (Sivko Tannery in Canisteo) closes there doors last fall. I have a contact if you need it for my local guy. You can PM me if interested... He uses the same guy that I do in Bath. He can get it done for you but it would be cheaper to go directly to the source with no middle man. ZAG, cervidchasers, Bolt Action and 2 others 5
