Who's ready and looking forward to SZ ML

I always look forward to ML season and for the past 2 years the holiday hunt. It's our fill the freezer season. Only does are fair game, unless you haven't gotten a buck yet, then it's ok.

Spent some time at the range today. Shot 6 times and ran a couple wet patches through after the first 3 shots. BH209 85g by volume for the first 3, then 90g by volume for the last 3. Shooting TC 250g shockwaves spire point out of a TC Pro hunter.  Both had a 2.5" group at 100, but the 90g hit about 1.5" high. Figured I'd stick with the 90g and should be good out to 175y.

As soon as I use up these shockwaves, I'll grab some of the Hornady SST and crushed rib sabots everyone raves about.

Good luck everyone.

I'm excited!

Sighting in my new hawken this weekend.

Going to try and dial her in with my favorite load of 80gr 777 FFG, under a felt wad and a Hornady great plains 385gr conical.

On night shift for the winter, so I'll be able to hunt mornings next week.

I have one and a half deer in the freezer, so I plan to hold out for a buck.

All set ! Haven’t hunted since Thanksgiving morning , there’s one field the bucks come out in well before dusk ,so I’ll be on the ground there .

No big plans I’ll hunt when the weather is nice ,and only take a buck much bigger then my rifle one .

Nobody’s hunted close to my spot for  a couple weeks , got two nice buffers where no one hunts . Bring it !

I’d consider tinkering with a few different combos after the season. That thing should be capable of MOA or close to at 100 yards. Those Pro Hunters are nice. Probably just a matter of finding the right fitting sabot and powder combo. The SSTs won’t be much different than the shockwaves IMO.

There are so many options it’s crazy. Barnes, Harvester, and the list goes on.

I have four MZ and still end up using my Wolf most of the time. Cheapest of the bunch but it’s a shooter. I have come to enjoy the late season as much as the early season. You get back to natural movement and bed to good movements. We will also be going to Ohio for their MZ weekend too.

I don't doubt you, but realistically, even on a lead sled, I'm sure someone else could shoot better, lol.

For killing does, where realistically shots will be under 100 yards, I'll be ok.

I actually usually dread it.  Don't like when it comes to muzzleloader season to fill the freezer.  Usually it's cold and tougher conditions to hunt in and we have less deer around by then.

But I am glad it's there when I need the opportunity still.  I love my muzzleloader, might be my favorite gun but I generally hope I don't Need to use it.

Good luck all

I'm in the opposite situation. Landowners want the does thinned out, and it's not difficult for 8-10 guys to take a truckload full during the late season.  Last couple years were easy, no mast crop meant the deer were hitting the fields hard. This yr, they are not hitting the fields until well after dark because of the abundance of nuts. Hopefully it gets a "little" colder so they filter into the fields a little bit sooner.

Same , I haven’t hunted it in many years, actually sold my ML years ago, now with the new one, and most of next week sunny and low 40s I’ll give it a go .

I love the late ML season. After the first 2 days of gun the regular season usually sucks bad. By late ML the deer settle down a bit here as most folks have filled the tags they wanted or thrown in the towel. My local does settle in to a little bit of a cold weather pattern if we get snow and cold weather and I usually get a crack at a good relaxed fat doe.

I basically hunt with the ML after the first day or two of regular season as it is my favorite gun. Solid shooter out to 150-175.
