Robhuntandfish Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 i posted this on the old HNY forum but thought it would be worth mentioning here as well. I did an experiment this year with trail cams. In two areas of our hunting property i setup trail cams across from each other. One on video and one on pictures only. The difference was just amazing. if going by the still pictures alone an area was far less impressive than with the video. It told a whole different story and took so many more images. 2023 i am going with 6 of these video cameras in our best places and as other cams die off will repalce them with video. Now on crazy windy days it can be a pain to sort thru all that video but wow what a difference. And most of the time on those days you can tell by the date and time stamp that it is still prob wind and skip a bunch. if you havent gone to video on your cams give it a try. Or try the same as i did and put them opposite each other. Even better cams often give you a difficult to see pic esp if the deer is moving at night, but the videos come out better and show the whole story. Esp in a field and other deer interactions.... Bucksnbows Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I like video on my trail cams. If I’m hunting over bait in NJ, I only take photos. Agree that you will see things differently. I also learned long ago that cams only capture some of the deer, but not all. Cabin Fever Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I usually have my scrape cams on video. Love it! Robhuntandfish 1
Nontypical Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I have all of my cams on pics and video. I view the pics and request videos as needed. Videos definitely give you a better idea on what’s actually happening and how they interact with each other. Most of the videos that I request are from scrapes, but also somewhat open areas where seeking, chasing, and grunts can be heard. They can also be beneficial while examining a buck from multiple angles. Bucksnbows and Robhuntandfish 1 1
Dinorocks Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 My cell camera sends me a photo and when I pull the card, I also have a video (per the settings I made). Definitely get more of the “full picture” having the video. I recently had several blurry coyote picts…the videos are awesome! Same with deer working my hanging vine…incredible! LET EM GROW Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Video is certainly where its at! Pros and cons to it, Battery life, Card memory, File saves, and the time it takes to go through them.. but Videos are so worth it! they definitely do show you way more than what pictures could ever do..
