Cabin Fever Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 (edited) Anyone put out any bait piles to shoot predators off of? I apparently suck at predator calling and I'm not ambitious enough nor do I have the time to trap, but I need to do something to put a dent in the predator population. I staked a ribcage out back that I can keep an eye on and put a cam on it. I anticipate activity will pick up when the weather gets colder, but not much action so far. Did get a couple pics of a red tail hawk checking it out. Edited March 1, 2023 by Cabin Fever
mowin Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Buddy of mine does this. He took 22 yotes of of 3 properties that were less than a mile apart last yr. He puts a cell Cam up, and jumps in his truck when he gets a notification, sneaks up to a elevated blind he has set up about 150y from the baits. GreeneHunter and Cabin Fever 2

I bet the deer will appreciate that! Last winter, I had mainly had fox, possums and coons hitting the carcass. Only 1 coyote. I was happy to thin out the nest raiders too though! Cabin Fever Posted January 26, 2023 Author Posted January 26, 2023 (edited) Forgot I made this post. Earlier this morning my cell cam was going off in the yard and there was a red fox at the carcass (or what's left of it anyways). There's been a red fox that bolts as soon as my red light hits it, but with the fresh coating of snow, I could see it clearly without using the light, so I thought I'd "surprise" it! I put the crosshair on it's shoulder and shot. It hauled ass out of the yard. I was scratching my head as I was expecting it to drop with a shoulder shot and wondering how I missed, as I was only shooting 35-40 yards! As it started to get daylight, I was looking at the birds in the feeder and I noticed a dark trail in the snow where the fox was earlier. I looked through the binos and it turns out I didn't miss afterall! Edited March 1, 2023 by Cabin Fever 518BowSlayer and mowin 2
