A second rifle opening day question

Now that @Fab got his question answered, it caused me to come up with another. Is NY’s rifle opener the 3rd Saturday in each November?  I’m talking Southern zone of course.  It seems most years that the Saturday opening day is the one immediately before Thanksgiving, but this year and again in ‘25, the 3rd Saturday is two Saturdays before Thanksgiving.

Just wondering if anyone knows. I spent a lifetime hunting PA and NJ who’s gun openers were always first Monday after Thanksgiving and second Monday, respectively. I know PA changed that to a Saturday more recently. Now that all my rifle hunts are in NY, I need to learn all the intricacies of these things so I can plan ahead.

Yea I noticed next 2 seasons are 2 weekends before thanksgiving

seems to happen every 11 or so seasons.

I don’t like when Veterans Day isn’t in the same week as Election Day.   We have been going up the first week of xbow.

2 of us can work Columbus Day for comp time so it works out we take 1 and 1/2 days vac and get the week off. So it’s 9 days in camp

weather is usually better.  Less ppl in woods.  More rut activity.   We enjoy that full week better for actual hunting.

camp is more fun eatting drinking n watching football

I think this will be my 10th NY rifle season consecutively this year and i remembered one year we were up two Saturdays before Thanksgiving and bucks were chasing does still.

Yes when it's that early the bucks are still super active.  That week before gun season will be spectacular into an early gun opener.  I will be off work for most of it.  Already have two weeks vacation scheduled for Nov.

Although I really like the gun opener being the weekend before Thanksgiving and can take three days of after and have that whole opening week off.

I see me going up Friday the 8th with the Hoyt. Maybe toss in a small game hunt and a duck hunt in the duck blind.  I’ll sit when bucks are active and relax when not or chase grouse, rabbits and the ducks. Then I’d stay until Sunday afternoon or Monday morning of the rifle opener weekend.

The last couple years I came home Tuesday we hunt Saturday Sunday morning watch football maybe hunt Sunday afternoon maybe Monday morning definitely Monday afternoon watch the Monday night game.   My whole attitude changed as I got older.  If it’s windy and cold I stay in if I’m tired and I didn’t get a good nights sleep I stay in I enjoy being in camp the woodstove family food laughs getting a deer just creates extra work lol

If I can put a buck down before then, I'm more than happy to take you out on a grouse hunt with the dog next year.
