Now,  this is an old news story and I made this photo some years ago,  however, to this very day, guys are still blaming their Primers not  being hot enough or their Powder won't ignite when they use BH209 or  other Loose Powders and after you ask a few questions, it's the same old  thing, they are using the Breech Plug that comes with the Muzzleloader  as a factory standard and not using the Breech Plug designed for Loose  Powders. These Loose Powder Breech Plugs have been marketed incorrectly  for many years now and they are being sold as "BH209 Specific" and that  is not the case. They are for ALL LOOSE POWDERS and this is why a lot  of guys don't think the Breech Plug is the issue. Most Muzzleloaders  come standard with the Pellet Plug these days and then guys want to  shoot BH209 because they were "sold on it" for whatever reason or  excuse. The problem is, they were never told the details of the Breech  Plug requirements. The Pellet Plug is more standard these days because  the Powder Companies make a lot more money off of Pellets than they do  Loose Powder because with Pellets, they charge two to three time more  for 1/2 the Shots. What happens is social conformity and cooperate  brainwashing has really made a lot of guys blame things on everything  but the real issues and then want to argue with those of us who grasp  all the concepts of Muzzleloader issues. Make sure you have the right  Plug for your Powder.

Seriously...

I believe the removable vent liner originally started with the savage breech plug because the hotter temps of smokeless powder lead to a faster erosion of the flash hole . Henry Ball figured a removable vent liner would increase overall plug life . Over the years many have done them for cva,Knight and others . Typically CVA's, TC's, and other models that don't come with vent liners shoot OK until their flash hole enlarges... then accuracy will suffer.   Same sort of thing happens with Knights that have vent liners glued or brazed in.

Cva example , simply remove vent and replace with another

I've never seen or heard of this.

I'm on my 2nd inline ML. First was a TC that was a PITA to remove the breech plug as it wasn't a break action.  Believe the model was a thunderbolt?  Currently shoot a TC pro hunter.

So far the stock breech plug has worked. Shot a doe yesterday afternoon. My first using BH209.

You are an encyclopedia

Never saw this in my searching the web.

I did get the powder specific plug for my cva but seems there is another option now.

How many shots before the original powder plug needs to be swapped?
