blackbeltbill Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Yup,I have seen MANY Men run up a 23 or 24 Straight and " Choke" on Station 8/ Low House. For those who don't know- there are 8 Stations in a semi-circle Arc and a High House and a Low House on the Skeet Field. The 1st Clay pigeon you miss- the Puller will shout out " Option". You will then take a 2nd shot at the Station and house where you missed the Pigeon. If you have a straight of 23 going- the last 2 Shots will be-- Station 8/Low House. And as,I wrote- MANY Men will Choke right here as mind games will be played. My 1st Job was as a Skeet Field " Puller" from age 11 to 16 on both Weekend Days in Spring and Summer mostly. So,I witnessed many Choke ups. Alot of Shooters never went that 25 Straight. In the picture below my Father is Watching with an " over-under"draped on his Shoulder. His Good Friend Jerry is getting ready to shoot at Station 8/Low House. Someone else is Pulling because,I snapped this pic while waiting to Shoot myself. Both my Father and,I won " Registered " Skeet Shooting Matches in 1994. I won the 12 Gauge " Doubles" Shoot. I remember that Morning there was a slight Rain and a pretty good Wind. I won with a Low Score of 92 out of 100. The Clay Pigeons just " Flattened " out as soon as they cleared each house. Being a hardcore Pheasant Hunt,I just rode with those Pigeons down by Squating down some. I am thinking of getting back into some Skeet Shooting at the Thunder Mt. Range in Ringwood, NJ. Otto Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Same deal in trap - the 23rd, 24th and 25th birds are always the “hardest” to hit. We have a Winter Skeet League at the gun club coming up. I hope to go a few times, I’ve only been skeet shooting 6 or 7 times. blackbeltbill 1
mowin Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 (edited) I've gotten many 24's in trap, even wobble trap. Always dropped one early on in the round. Never choked on station 8. That's because I've never gotten close to a 25 in skeet, lol. 21 I believe was my best. Always liked the high and low house. The easiest points for me. Not to say that I've never missed from those stations, but for the most part, I made dust. Edited November 7, 2022 by mowin blackbeltbill 1
