CVA questions

I need to up my muzzleloader game.  I have a CVA Kodiak that I shoot Triple 7 pellets out of.   The trigger is 6 or 7lb, which sucks.  Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

I'm also wondering about buying a CVA Wolf with the bh209/loose powder breech plug.  Seems like many of you own and like this ML.  How is the trigger?  Where would you order one?  If it was up to me I would buy a single shot .450 Bushmaster and call it close enough, but I imagine the state would frown upon that.

The plan is to upgrade my muzzleloader in some fashion and then shoot it a bunch.  I honestly haven't done my part as far as practice.  I did shoot enough to figure out that I could get decent accuracy out of a Hornady TSX.  From the sounds, I am leaning towards a Barnes bullet instead.  Any advice welcome.  I thought I would get started on this now, since early muzzleloader season in VT starts in October.

I'm serious thinking about buying a CVA 45/70 and having it converted to smokeless.

Not sure if that's legal in VT.

If you want to handle one first, you might be able to check local Walmarts, as they had them on the shelf around here. If you have a Runnings, Bass Pro, or Sportsman's Warehouse, they usually have them in stock too, so you can get a feel for them before buying.

I've never heard anything bad about the CVA Wolf. Sounds like a great gun and shooter. I have the CVA Optima V2 and it shoots great, no complaints at all. My son picked one up this past summer, as he likes mine so much. Shooting BH209.

Most trigger pull can be reduced  by à simple polishing of the parts. Very fine sand paper and little at a time . Lot of unassembled and reassembly  but can do yourself  by going slow and cautious

You will get a lot better groups from loose powder.  The rifle should have a sharp crack and minimal flash 3 pellets i guarantee your blowing a lot of powder out the barrel.

When working  up a load  you start with power same as caliber  50 grain.  Add 5 or 10 at a time  till you get a tight group and  sharp crack and minimal flash ( you want to burn all the powder in the barrel)  you may end up at 85 or 95 or 105 grain.  Cant do that with pellets as well as getting 2x  the amount of shots vs  pellets for same cost.

I've seen some killer groups with pellets out of lots of muzzleloaders. Myself I prefer loose because you taylor your powder some  . If I'm not mistaken the Kodiak had a recall a long time ago,I thought cva shooters were given the option of a replacement muzzleloader. It might be worth a call to cva to check on that . Phade on here may be able to sell you one , if not muzzleloaders.com has a nice selection
