Doebuck1234 Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 May be early to post this but figured i'd get it up here as some may be thinking of what they are going to do this growing season(me). Went through all my seeds yesterday and should be good to go.Need to get supplies to start stuff inside, have a grow tent set up in basement to get things rolling. Last year I got 4 bags of Black Kow soil and tilled that into the garden prior to planting, was the best growing I've had sence started the garden so plan is to do that again. When does everyone else start germination process??? Trying anything new this year?? nywaw, paula, 2BuckBizCT and 2 others 4 1
2BuckBizCT Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 I'll be planting the usual tomatoes, cukes, basil and zuchini in May. That's all fenced in. But I was wondering if there is anything I can plant this year for fun on the edge of the woodsline that isn't fenced in and could maybe survive? Watermelons or Pumpkins? We have all the critters around- deer, rabbits, bear, bobcat, fox, skunk, racoons and coyotes. Something I can plant in the woods and not worry about?
Otto Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Garlic is very easy to grow and nothing bothers it. It does need good sun though. corydd7 1

They like slightly acidic soil and can thrive with just 6 hours of sun and shady late afternoons . They are easy to plant and grow by seed in place . And if they dont grow well , its not a huge loss of effort.

Thanks, but I was thinking something bigger that my daughter and I can walk into woods and "find"
corydd7 Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Purple potatoes, bok choy, sweet corn the only new stuff for me. Finally got my hands on some san marazano and Amish paste seeds. I took last year off from eggplant but that will be back in the rotation both Japenese and Italian. I plan on starting the first week of March. Doebuck1234 1
corydd7 Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Lol and a couple hours after the thread is made my seed order arrives. paula, Robhuntandfish and Doebuck1234 2 1
corydd7 Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 It's time! Forty five peppers and seven eggplant started. More eggplant and tomatoes next sunday. Doebuck1234, paula, Bucksnbows and 1 other 4
Bucksnbows Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Looks like I had collard greens, leeks and rosemary survive our NJ winter and the leeks were a very late start last year. The collards will just keep leafing out. Other than looking at the garden, we haven’t taken any other steps to get it ready. But looking forward to putting hands in soil soon. corydd7 1 "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board

corydd7 Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 Watermelon and pumpkin will not survive from my experience. Garlic, shallots or onion would work.
corydd7 Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 Garlic is coming up right on schedule. Eggplant, tomato and zinnia germination has been smooth, peppers are just starting to break soil. Last year's germination nightmare has been avoided so far. Robhuntandfish 1
Robhuntandfish Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 Just bought seeds yesterday, its a good feeling of nice days to come. "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson

My mulch is a little too thick but it seems to be ok
