The_Real_TCIII Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Last night at midnight I let my dogs out and one got sprayed by s skunk! Nice way to end my evening. I mixed up peroxide/baking soda/dish detergent and shampooed him with it which seems to have done a great job but the house still smells a bit. Luckily weve got a rare warm day to have the windows open and air it out Rob-c, grampy, Robhuntandfish and 1 other 2 1 1
Rob-c Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Happened to us many years ago , our youngest boy at the time was like 8. Told him to let the dog in before bed , he did . She ran straight to our bed , her face was yellow from the spray . We burned our bedding and bought a new mattress . Only saving grace it was middle of summer . And yes the concoction mix is the only thing that works .

grampy Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Ah.......the joys of being a dog owner! I once had a beagle, that was dumb enough to get sprayed by a skunk a few times over her lifetime. I think she liked the smell????
Robhuntandfish Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 @turkeyfeathers told me to rinse my dog with mouthwash when I had that happen and that definitely helped. "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson
Otto Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 It actually works for Skunk smell too. Nomad and SportsmanNH 2

Our first dog never seemed to upset about getting sprayed. I was out with our two Parson Russell terriers yesterday and the one found a porcupine. luckily these dogs are on the cautious side and nobody got any quills. grampy 1

Spaceman Spiff Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Happened to me 5 years ago at 10 pm. I now keep a “skunk kit” same things you used, worked well on my long haired mutt. He has since passed but my ankle biter is still around and she loves going after anything. (Little dog syndrome) cook bacon house will smell better.
