Snowmobilers should stop bitching.  I'll bet a lot of  the landowners in CNY are hunters, and might be inclined to deny access altogether if the clubs are successful in getting the holiday season nixed.

it's something that isn't really an issue for the landowner anymore than people trespassing when trails aren't open do to little snow base. local clubs just can announce a certain property is closed or otherwise them and the landowners don't open up gates. the pissing match this created is ridiculous. hell not long ago we had last weekend of rifle with over 2' of snow on the ground. needed a sled just to get out there and haul the deer back. lol

My personal view is if you can spend 20 k on a snowmobile/atv then you can  buy the land to ride it on or trailer it to where you can ride.  I have 1 inch of snow right now and there is no way id take a snowmobile out in it to fill track with mud.

Landowners can allow snowmobile at any time. And clubs could open trails after regular season. Fortunately the clubs realise landowners tend to use their land themselves .and respect that. I havent seen a riding club support banning holiday hunt locally at all.

Just curious if anyone knows the snowmobile clubs that support banning holiday hunt to open trails? Or is it just the snowmobiler that doenst belong to a club complaining.

I know last year wyoming county legislators were considering it until the landowners that had trails thru it siad go ahead  we will just remove our properties from the trail network permanently... that ended the discussion quickly..

Every year the local club asks to run their trail across our land, and every year our attorney sends them a polite letter saying no .

I find them annoying, if it snows during gun season they’ll trespass the posted land I hunt on ,circling the bedding area ….

We had a farm that a development was built next to .one of the new neighbors asked if he could ride his sled. My father told him to call when he wanted to go..  1st snowfall he called. My father explained the ground wasnt frozen and 4  inches was not enough to protect the winter wheat from damage.  The man said he never knew that and would call to ask when it was safe to ride after that.  He seemed to take the advice to heart and hopefully passed that along to his kids in the future ..  the farm sold few years alter and is 144 houses now.

My father had a rule for us i still follow 30 years later. 6 in if ground is froze.  12 in if its not.  Could ride right out the garage for 100s of miles back then .

I don’t hunt the farmland we own , and really wouldn’t mind if their trails went across it . Our attorney ( and yes we’re aware of the general obligation laws “ protecting “ land owners ) simply said why risk opening yourself up to a creative lawsuit ?

That and them trespassing on the posted land I hunt really ticks me off .

So after all of that, who's actually going out for the holiday hunt? I wasn't planning on it originally (put most of my gear away) but I took PTO that week to spend time with the kids and I just found out that they are going to my sisters next Tues-Thurs so I think I will be breaking the gear back out if the weather looks decent.

The oldest member of camp text he would like to hunt wed thursday.. if  no one else is coming out  ill head out with him.  Hopefully his son decides to  hunt.

He really shouldnt be hunting alone.  With some health and safety issues.

If weather is bad and he stays home then im comfortable not going at all as freezer is full and bucks will be bigger next year

I'll be out.  As well as my two nephews and a few buddies of mine. Landowner wants the doe population knocked down, and we'll do our best to help out.  We took 8 does last holiday season.  Bucks are off limits, and everyone knows to triple check for dropped antlers before shooting.
