I’m going to need a ML

Ok, I sold my MK 85 , once we went rifle ( I used it in shotgun season ) . Now I’m going to ML hunt in Tenn at my nephews, the first week or two of Nov . It’s pretty mild then ,and it’ll be a few day hunt that’s all I’ll use it . I’m not looking for a hobby, I have zero interest in testing new loads, experimenting with things and so on , once it’s set up it set up .

So a good mid range gun, that’s simple to,load and clean , oh and my MK 85 was 11 caps loose powder and sabots , so I guess I’ll need advice on pellets and such and I believe 209 caps ?

Thanks

CVA Wolf with a decent scope. BH209 and 209 primers. Pick a bullet and you will need a bit of range time. 90 grains of powder and I bet youre sighted in in inside of seven shots. Dont overthink it

Thanks , I’ve got a Nikon BDC scope laying around that I took off my daughters rifle when she went to a red dot .

I think ill stock up on components now though .

Cva-pick model by price.

harvester sabots

black horn 209 powder

remington sts 209 primers “hard to find but the best from my experience”

Pick whatever bullet you like, I’m a Barnes guy.

kill deer and don’t overthink it. With a 270gn bullet I’m zeroed at 130yds that gives me 170 yds of never having to think about zero as it’s never more or less than 2” from crosshairs.

Any new cva or Knight will do just fine, if you want to up the price the woodman arms are fantastic . I don't currently own one but I've spoken to the owner Mark a few times .

If your going used or find a new old stock grab a TC Omega . Could possibly be one of the greatest ML built all time .

Although older in design the White muzzleloader line up is hard to beat . Tony Knight and Doc White started building them about the same time . Both lineup's are classics

Just remember if you go cva you'll need the bh209 plug as it doesn't come with it

Thanks everyone ! Yep I just watched a CVA video and saw that about the plug . I’ll hit the gun shop tomorrow for components, I’ll ask about CVA ML but it’s not a hunting shop, mostly tactical stuff, ARs , AR pistols , mini 14s, short barrel shotguns and handguns .

They’ve always had primers and powder ,  I never gave it much of a look though .

Looks like my shots will be fairly close , and off a solid rest .

Hit the gun shop, fresh out of 209 primers, but had many pistol types . Two kinds of powder and he said he could get me 777 also . Makes since it’s ML season and guys must have cleaned them  out .

I’ll just wait a bit till things replenish.

777 won't perform anywhere near the black horn so loads will vary from what people recommend when using black horn.

You may be in for a long wait.  He had 209 primers and was fresh out?  Then he's one of the few that had them.

I waited over a year and a half to get 209M primers and I was on multiple waiting lists and that before the queen made them impossible to ship into NY without a ffl.

Get what you want when you see it but if you plan to go with BH209 the primers are rare to find as you really should use 209M.  I had a failure at the wrong time just using 209
